Federal SPAM Task Force Follow-up

Daemon Defense worked with a Federal Government of Canada task group in 2005 to prepare recommendations on handling SPAM.

We still receive many requests for information on the report and any resulting actions from the Government. Our group reported directly to the Minister of Industry Canada.

The TSACC Working Group will encourage and support Canadian marketers in adopting SPAM-free marketing techniques and promote the establishment of industry codes of practice that make it clear that SPAM has no legitimate role in Canadian e-commerce. The Working Group will also define and encourage adoption of a framework for developing and implementing an industry wide commercial e-mail validation system among Canadian marketers.

The final report can be found at
http://e-com.ic.gc.ca/epic/internet/inecic-ceac.nsf/en/h_gv00317e.html.

The report was submitted in May 2005 and we have yet to see any resulting action.

Daemon Defense has continued our involement in the SPAM filtering community. Justin Funke is also a member of the Anti-SPAM Research Group (ASRG).

The Anti-Spam Research Group (ASRG) investigates tools and techniques to mitigate the effects of spam. The focus of the ASRG is on technology solutions, although it may consider tools and techniques to aid the implementation of legal and other non-technical anti-spam measures. It also provides input for standardization efforts within the IETF.
